GreenPleco Plecostomus plush giveaway!

August 9, 2015

This giveaway has ended. Thanks for participating everyone! You can still buy your own GreenPleco plushie over at the GreenPleco website.

Hi everyone! It’s been quite a while since the last giveaway on Aquariadise, so I’m super excited to announce I’ve teamed up with GreenPleco to give away one of their Plecostomus plushies.

Plecostomus, or pleco, is a name used for a wide variety of catfish that are often kept in aquariums. Although most don’t actually eat algae, many pet- and aquarium stores sell them as algae eaters! They can be found in many different colors and sizes and GreenPleco is working hard to turn them all into plushies.

I don’t own any plecos myself, but they are wonderful fish to keep and make great plushies! They are available in many different color patterns and have a suction cup mouth like a real pleco so they can be attached to your aquarium or windows. I had to have one and received a green plush a few days ago.

And now for the best part: I get to give away one pleco plushie to a lucky Aquariadise reader! To participate, subscribe to Aquariadise if you haven’t already, read the rules and leave a comment below. 😀

  • The giveaway is for Aquariadise subscribers!
  • Leave a comment here using the e-mail address you used to subscribe (e-mail stays private)
  • If you haven’t subscribed yet, you can do so below
  • The winner will be chosen with a random number generator on August 23rd and e-mailed with three days to respond with their address
  • If you have a Tumblr account, you can reblog the giveaway post there for an extra entry!

Good luck and happy fishkeeping everyone!

My family used to have a larger aquarium when I was little and we had a pleco in there! Now I only have room for a 5g tank with my betta but hopefully when I get my own place I can start larger aquariums again!

  • Reply Brenna August 14, 2015 at 10:03 am

I hope one day I can own a tank large enough to own a pleco, they’re one of my favorite fish! I almost cried when I saw these plushies, they are sooo charming.

Hi! I think you sent two comments from the same IP address so I’ll only be entering one to keep things fair. 🙂

  • Reply NarelleArt August 14, 2015 at 4:14 am

I’ve been eyeing those plush plecos for ages! They are too cute!
I’m a big catfish fan, but my only current pleco species is Ancistrus cf. cirrhosus. I have been considering finding another ornamental smaller species for an upcoming tank upgrade though. (150g)

    • Reply Mari August 14, 2015 at 9:05 am

Bristlenoses are one of my favorites! Although one of those crazy L-number color varieties would look pretty nice as well.

  • Reply Elizabeth August 13, 2015 at 1:51 pm

These fish are adorable! I know my neighbor who owns a fish pond would love one of these in her pond. Her grand sons would love it too

  • Reply Izzy August 11, 2015 at 6:40 am

These are perfect for customers who want one but they don’t have enough room! Now I just wish there was a Farlowella! 😉

    • Reply Mari August 11, 2015 at 11:05 am

I do think there’s a bristlenose going into production in October, so maybe a Farlowella in the future!

  • Reply Psybur August 11, 2015 at 4:44 am

I am always telling customers with microscopic tanks not to get these b/c even the smallest species still gets 4 inches! Stick with Otocinclus for 10s and under.

    • Reply Mari August 11, 2015 at 11:07 am

Very true! You really need at least a 20 gal or so. Although all those really ridiculously small tanks being sold now are not going to work for ANY living creature and definitely no catfish.

  • Reply Khouri August 10, 2015 at 11:21 pm

    Too cute!

  • Reply Jessica August 10, 2015 at 10:57 pm

  • Reply Alliemae August 10, 2015 at 8:27 pm

    Ohhh! Nice

  • Reply Vanessa August 10, 2015 at 8:09 pm

I’ve owned various plecos in my lifetime (some that I’ve had to give away because they got too large for the tank) and I have to admit that they are very hardy fish.
That plushie is one of the cutest things ever though!

    • Reply Mari August 11, 2015 at 11:09 am

They sure are! Although I always recommend bristlenoses or other small L-numbers for anyone who doesn’t have a 100+ gallon setup.

  • Reply Elizabeth August 10, 2015 at 7:14 pm

    That’s awesome!

  • Reply Gabrielle August 10, 2015 at 6:18 pm

This was my best email all week. My daughter would go gaga over one of those plushies. We have bushynose plecos that recently had two batches of babies. They’re so cute when they’re small!

I unfortunately don’t have any plecos due to my tanks being too small, but they are definitely going in a large tank when I get one! They have such great personalities and they are adorable, too!

  • Reply Emily August 9, 2015 at 5:37 pm

A couple months ago I was taking two plecos back to the store (they were in a 55-gallon I was given charge of and were far too large for it), so I had them both in a bucket on the bus, and the guy sitting next to me wanted to know what was in the bucket and wouldn’t leave me alone even though I wanted to keep it dark for them in there. So I quickly flashed him my plecos on a public bus.

    • Reply Mari August 9, 2015 at 6:23 pm

Oh, you! I would be so excited if someone flashed me their plecos.

  • Reply Max August 9, 2015 at 4:06 pm

I have 2 places and love them to death! They are so fun to watch! I’d love one of those cute plushies wouldn’t everyone? 🙂

  • Reply Lapis August 9, 2015 at 1:35 pm

Ahhhh what cuties! I don’t have any Plecos of my own seeing as all my aquariums are too small, but a plush one would be the next best thing!

  • Reply shell August 9, 2015 at 1:33 pm

Thanks for the post about one of my favorite fish! I love my plecostomous – have had one for over 6 years. As a catfish, they don’t stop growing, so a spacious aquarium is a must. I’ve had one outgrow a 55 gallon tank – not a bad excuse to buy a bigger one! Also, a full hood or tank cover is a must as they do like to jump. (I’ve rescued mine from the floor several times.) Although they have a few specific needs that makes them a fish more for the intermediate aquarist, Plecostomous make a fascinating addition to my aquarium!

    • Reply Mari August 9, 2015 at 5:13 pm

That’s really interesting! Sailfin plecos and other very large varieties are definitely only for HUGE tanks and not too suitable for beginners. Luckily there are plenty of small L-numbers and bristlenose pleco species that work for tanks of 20 gallons and up as well. 😀

  • Reply Cassie August 9, 2015 at 12:56 pm

That’s so nice to hear! The Tumblr is actually an extension for this site, so this is where the real party happens. Good luck!

  • Reply Daisy August 9, 2015 at 11:20 am

I don’t own any plecos myself either due to my tank being too small. I see soo many people squeezing them into tanks too small and it makes me sad 🙁 cute plush tho!!!!

    • Reply Mari August 9, 2015 at 11:29 am

I notice that a lot as well, I think it’s due to them being marketed as algae eaters leading to impulse purchases!

  • Reply Damian August 9, 2015 at 11:16 am

    It’s looks so cute. 😀
