My visit to a HQ Goldfish importer!

January 29, 2013

After setting up my new aquarium, I really wanted a new telescope eye. However, I didn’t want to support any chain pet stores any more and wasn’t too sure where else I could get one until I stumbled upon the site of HQ Goldfish, a Dutch high quality goldfish dealer. I asked whether there were any telescope eyes/Demekins in stock and there were, so we drove there to see if there were any we liked. Unfortunately there was only one left, but we bought it anyway. It has great colors and even though one eye is significantly larger than the other, which happens with telescope eyed goldfish sometimes, it’s a pretty impressive fish.

Had a great experience at HQ Goldfish, there were some pretty interesting goldies there so I took loads of photos. The slideshow below features a few!

The new (and currently nameless) Demekin is currently being quarantined in the old goldfish tank, fingers crossed he/she makes it through! Can’t wait to see the other goldie’s faces when they’re introduced to their new friend.

It took a while before it stopped trying to squish its fat body under the filter in an attempt to hide, but it seems quite content right now. The food floating around is dried brine shrimp I gave as a small snack.

If you have any suggestions on what to name the new guy/gal, leave a comment!

Happy fishkeeping!

Your fish can go a while without food until you find some. Be sure to get quality food like Hikari Staple or New Era Goldfish! You can also order that online through Amazon. For more information about goldfish keeping, you can have a look at this article and, assuming it’s a long-bodied, single-tailed common goldfish, this one.
Please also inform your grandson that giving away goldfish at carnivals and fairs is inhumane and that he shouldn’t try to win any! Good luck.
